Manthan
2015-16
No law school, anywhere across the world can be complete without a politically and socially aware student body. As soon as discussion, debate and deliberation amongst the student body stagnate, no individual can truly understand why the law operates how it does, and why we are studying subjects that are important across lines of class, region and religion.
Manthan was created with the express purpose of facilitating discussion and debate; but this year, we hope that it can be more than simply a weekly meet. As organisers, we acknowledge the significant role it can play in college, in regards to furthering socio-political research, legal awareness, and a heightened sense of awareness amongst the students of NLIU. We re-launch Manthan this year with a new format, to encourage a more in-depth understanding of the topics and hand, and therefore allow for more detailed and substantive debate both during and after the official discussion.
However, no discussion forum can be successful with an apathetic, or largely disinterested student community. To ensure the continuance and growth of Manthan beyond the realms of the classroom, and into the minds and conversations of individuals in the University, we must collectively endeavour to gain a better understanding of the world around us. One must simply re-ignite the spirit of inquiry that has seen us come so far.
